I am a lover of authentic hip hop. I love the art, the feel, the presentation, the lyrical dexterity, the creativity, the poetic cadence, the style, the improptu verbal improvisation, (AKA freestyle), the world wide impact, and the potential of hip hop.
Through this blog, I’m looking to take an in depth look into hip hop. I want to rediscover some great hip hop gems from the past and find new gems of the present. I want to talk about the future of hip hop, I want to talk about top 5’s, 10’s, and 25’s, explore the deeper meanings in some of the greatest hip hop songs.
We may never discover or agree on who the G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time) is, but I want to talk about who might be great candidates. I want to explore what MC’s are saying through their words. I want to discuss the impact of hip hop on the world stage.
We have witnessed how hip hop has influenced popular culture and now has spawned new cultures within urban communities.
The internet and social media have given us the ability to highlight urban culture in a new way. The “hustle” spoken about by hip hop hop MC’s is not limited to the streets. It is a principle that is used in all sections of life in the urban community. I want to highlight that aspect of the hustle.
Hip hop shows us that there is no more impactful force to people than the spoken word. Though it is not the only art form that highlights the spoken word, hip hop has impacted cultures world wide in such a powerful way. I want to talk about where it’s going next and I’d love to have that conversation with you.
Come along with me on this musical odyssey. Let’s salute the greatest musical and cultural invention in recent history. Salute to hip hop!
“…Hip hop didn’t invent anything, but hip hop reinvented everything…”
